In 2015, Aryan received a phone call that changed his life forever. A college friend urgently needed blood donors for a three-year-old child battling brain cancer. Aryan tried to help, but the child could not be saved due to a lack of timely blood support. The loss stayed with him, leaving him to question what more he could do. Aryan began organising blood donation drives across the city, determined that no life should be lost simply because help arrived too late. But in 2016, his journey of service took another turn.
A Goodbye No One Should Have To Miss
A sub-inspector who knew Aryan through his social work called him in 2016 about an unclaimed body. No family had come forward, and the police needed help arranging the cremation. Aryan did not hesitate. He arranged everything required and performed the last rites himself.
When no family came forward, Aryan did. He stood in for people with no one left to claim them, arranging their final rites with the care one would show their own. Since then, he has given 190 unclaimed bodies a dignified farewell.
I take up nearly 20 cases every month, and every time I perform a cremation, I do it as if they were my own. No one should leave this world without the respect they deserve. — Aryan
When Dignity Comes At A Cost
Aryan works as a delivery boy and earns just Rs 15,000 a month. Each cremation costs around Rs 12,000. Ambulance charges add another Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, depending on the distance. To make this possible, Aryan borrows money from friends and acquaintances, quietly carrying the financial burden.
But there are times when he has to say no. Not because he wants to, but because he has no money left.
The hardest part is having to say no when someone needs dignity, simply because I do not have the resources to help. — Aryan
This Pitrapaksh, Let No One Be Forgotten
Through this fundraiser, Aryan hopes to raise funds to cover cremation and ambulance costs, so no call goes unanswered. Your support can help him continue giving unclaimed bodies a respectful farewell, without the fear of running out of resources.
This Pitrapaksh, while families remember those they have lost, help Aryan remember those who have no one left to remember them.
Donate today to help ensure that no one leaves this world unseen, unnamed, or without dignity.
