My name is Shakuntala, and I have been serving blind people here in Delhi for the past 10 years. This is not just a job—it is my life, my mission, and my family.
Today, I speak not only as someone who manages this service, but as someone struggling to hold everything together.
Just a few days ago, the back of our space, including our small kitchen, was flooded. The water came in quickly and took everything with it—our supplies, cooking area, and most of the essentials we had gathered through months of effort.
Right behind our shelter is a deep, dangerous open drain. The smell is unbearable. Mosquitoes swarm day and night. The boys here, who are visually impaired, can hardly sleep. 🦟 Illness spreads easily. And yet, even in these terrible conditions, I have never once thought of shutting down our seva.
Why?
Because where would they go? These children, these young blind souls, they have no one else. Over the years, we have created a family here—one based on trust, love, and dignity. I cannot walk away from them.
In these dark times, True 1mpact Foundation has come forward to amplify our voice—to let the world know that this little corner of care must not vanish silently.

Every day, we continue our work with limited resources, often without knowing where the next day’s meals will come from. But we believe that love, seva, and collective kindness can rebuild what was broken.
Many think that once you construct a building, life becomes easier. But that’s not true.
What matters is not the structure, but the souls inside it. And right now, our people are suffering.
I’m not asking for sympathy. I’m asking for support.
